EFECT is happy to accounce that several of its members are part of the consortia for 2 recently funded EU projects on Energy system modelling, optimisation and planning tools (call HORIZON-CL5-2022-D3-01-13).
The EU projects are Mopo (EFECT members involved are VTT - coordinator, as well as DTU, KU Leuven and VITO) and iDesignRES (EFECT members involved are NTNU - coordinator, as well as TU Berlin, Sintef, PSI, IIASA, TU Wien, Tecnalia and EDF).
Here is a short description about the projects:
About Mopo (Comprehensive, fast, user-friendly and thoroughly validated open-source energy system planning framework):
The Mopo project is developing 1) component tools that produce model-ready datasets for all energy sectors, 2) Spine Toolbox : a tool to manage scenarios, data and workflows, and 3) SpineOpt: an energy system model for energy system planning. The tools can be used for research and for decision making support by network operators, industries and public authorities. They aim to be easy-to-use, comprehensively validated, computationally efficient and they are open-source.
About iDesignRES (Integrated Design of the Components of the Energy System to Plan the Uptake of Renewable Energy Sources: An Open Source Toolbox):
iDesignRES will provide public authorities and network operators with open-source toolboxes for planning and optimizing the integration of renewable energy sources. Focusing on openness, transparency, and accessibility, the project will deliver a harmonized data structure compatible with various modeling approaches, along with a database compliant with standardized data formats. The project will provide an innovative cloud-hub platform for online energy system modeling, facilitating research collaboration and enhancing computational performance for users.
